White Lake –Noted for its game fish of Northern Pike, Large and Smallmouth Bass and Walleye, it is also known as one of the top 10 Largemouth Bass fisheries in Ontario. Pan fish include Perch, Bluegill, Sunfish and Brown Bullheads.
Meet the owners – Doug and Kate Tilley
Doug
I moved to White Lake in 1967 from Long Island, New York, with my family when my Mom and Dad (Lois and Richard), purchased two cottage rental resorts – Campbell Cottages and Box Cabin Rentals. Over the ensuing years the T-Bell Resort was developed into 13 cottages, 150 trailer sites, Boat docking for over 100 boats, 30 Boats and Motors in the rental fleet. We also ran a Chrysler Boat & Motor dealership, licensed dining lounge, snack bar and a 110-seat entertainment lounge.
In 1988 the original Box property was sold and subsequently closed. What was left was 8 cottages, 5 trailer sites, and docking slips. Katie and I purchased this in December 2003. We now focus on being a small fishing camp. Since our acquisition in 2003 we have re-built every cabin, bought new boats and motors and built new docks, which in 2021 will be capable of docking 40 boats all with power to them.
Initially the upgrades to all cabins were new decks, doors, windows, roofs, appliances, bathrooms, gas fireplaces, and flooring. We have now added screened in porches to all but 1 cabin at the same time expanding these cabins. All cabins are now fully air conditioned.
In 2020/2021 we demolished #7 cabin and replaced it with a 1,300 sf beautiful new cabin for 8 people. Future plans will be to demolish #6 cabin and replace with another 1,300 sf cabin.
Katie has recently retired in 2020. I continue to work full time. In addition to my full time employment T-Bell keeps us both extremely busy in the summer months.
My career is in commercial real estate where I bought an ownership interest in Cushman & Wakefield (CW), Ottawa. CW is the world’s largest commercial real estate brokerage company. My specialty is office leasing for a multitude of corporate clients.
I attended college in Ottawa subsequently obtaining the CPA accounting designation.
I am an avid fisherman. I try to get on the lake as often as possible so I can provide tips to all of our guest on where to go and what to use.
Katie and I are lucky to have 5 young grandchildren with the oldest now 8 years old. Our 2 oldest children, Jason (his wife Sunny) and Marcie (her husband Marc) have trailers on 2 of the 5 sites we have on the property. Our youngest daughter, Victoria lives in Ottawa with her husband Sergei, and is attending Carleton University in their Science program.
The summer is a great time, not only do we get to meet all the great people who book a fishing vacation on White Lake with us, we now get to see our grandkids every weekend.
Kate
I was raised in Ottawa by immigrant parents who came from England in the early 50’s. After working for 47 years I retired in 2020 and am looking forward to meeting all of our guests at the T-Bell in the coming summers.
I graduated from College with a computer systems diploma. Most of my adult working life was spent in Ottawa though I have lived on the west coast of Canada in Vancouver B.C. for 8 years.
Doug and I were destined to meet because of our zest for cottage life in the summer. I love White Lake and the surrounding area. Since we met, Doug and I have spent all of our summer leisure time here at the T-Bell.
I am planning to improve my golf game in my retirement and when Doug isn’t fishing, I will drag him out to the course.
Doug and I spend our winters either embracing the snow and colder weather on the ski slopes or cavorting in the waves down south in Florida.
We both have a mutual love for live sports with hockey and football at the top of the list. We have season tickets for the Ottawa RedBlacks (CFL Team) and the Ottawa Senators hockey team. We head out to as many of these games as we can! Now that’s Canadian eh?
